AIKEN - Mr. Robert Rudd Hurt, 82, passed away on August 24, 2009 after a long illness. Robert Hurt was born May 24, 1927 in Staunton, VA. He served his country in WWII as well as the Korean Conflict, earning the rank of Captain. After graduating from the University of Virginia he became a speechwriter for Senators and Governors. Mr. Hurt won numerous awards over his career including the National Defense Service medal and the Arkansas Traveler Ambassador award. He ended his career of many years with Merck Co., retiring as Vice President. He was a loving husband and father, survived by his wife Tricia Higgins Hurt; two children, Robert H. Hurt, Atlanta, GA, Rebecca Walter, Hagerstown, MD; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
