AIKEN, SC - Mr. James Franklin Skidmore, age 91, died March 12 at his residence. He was born in Roane County, TN and grew up in Lenoir City, TN. After serving as a Flight Specialist/Bombardier in WWII, he married Hazel Stevens Skidmore, his wife of 71 years. In 1953, the couple moved to Aiken, SC when he accepted a job with DuPont at the Savannah River Plant. After retiring, James was able to enjoy his true passion. Flying. He flew his own plane until the age of 84. He was a member of the Barnwell Regional Airport and enjoyed many hours with his fellow pilots. James is survived by his wife, Hazel; his children, Jim Skidmore, Steve Skidmore, and Terri Skidmore. His children by heart, Larry and Millie Skidmore. His granddaughters: Missie, Krista, Samantha, Ami, Dora, and Sarah. 13 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his grandsons, Tommie and Steve Skidmore. Pallbearers will be: Steve Skidmore, Larry Skidmore, Ryan Gregory, Aaron Gregory, Luke McGovern, and Colby Anderson. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, March 15 from 5:30 to 7:30 at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral home. The funeral will be held at Levels Baptist Church on Thursday, March 16 at 3:00. Burial will follow at the church cemetary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Levels Baptist Church or the Wounded Warriors Project.
