Russell C. Magness

AIKEN, SC – RUSSELL CLINTON MAGNESS, SR., 85, beloved husband of Genevieve Bolin Magness, passed away Monday, April 3, 2017 after a long illness. A native of Gainesville, GA, Russell was a son of the late Robert E. and Minnie Lee Merk Magness.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army for 4 years, serving in Germany during the Korean War.  He then moved to Aiken and worked at Lowes for many years, retiring in the late 80’s.  Russell was a member of Redds Branch Baptist Church.  He enjoyed playing golf. Survivors, in addition to his wife, Jenny, include his daughter, Cheryl Satcher (Bryan), Graniteville; his son, Russell C. “Rusty” Magness, Jr. (Teri), Graniteville; three grandsons, Paul Magness (Mickale), Timothy Magness (Julie), Justin Satcher; two great-grandchildren, Rylan and Caiden Magness.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister and five brothers. The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon beginning at 1 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home followed by the funeral service at 2 o’clock.  The Rev. Richard McWhite will officiate.  Interment will follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens.  Pallbearers will be Paul Magness, Timothy Magness, Justin Satcher, Ricky Heath, Tommie Blackwell and Danny Kimball. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Redds Branch Baptist Church Building Fund, 390 Redds Branch Rd., Aiken, SC 29801.
