Esther Adams Matthews

AIKEN - Mrs. Esther Adams Matthews, 86, died Monday, September 28, 2009. A service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 3 in the St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church Chapel with the Reverend Joseph Whitehurst officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Mrs. Matthews was born in Sardinia, NY, a daughter of the late Edwin C. and Edith Chase Adams. She moved to Aiken five years ago and was a member of St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church. She enjoyed making ceramics, knitting, sewing and was an avid reader. Survivors include her son, Joel (Phyllis) Franklin, Aiken; step children, Bob Matthews, Rochester, NY, Judy Matthews, Sodus, NY, Sue Matthews, Redding Ridge, CT, Karen Matthews, Rochester; eight grandchildren, Kimberly Goetz, Sean Strickland, Shane Strickland, Tina Worth, Melissa Franklin, Cory Franklin, Tim Green and Christopher Green; ten great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Noel H. Matthews, and her daughters, Peggy Forrester and Diana Strickland.
