Vann Douglas Shirley

SPRINGFIELD, SC - VANN DOUGLAS SHIRLEY, 46, beloved husband of Mara Jeanne Shirley, died October 6, 2009. Born December 4, 1962 at Fort Oglethrope, GA, Vann was a registered nurse who worked for Barnwell County Hospital. He served our country from 1979 to 1983 as a United States Marine, received an honorable discharge, and was a member of the Marine Corp League, Detachment 1227, "Barnwell County Leathernecks". He was also a member of the National Rifle Association. He was loved very much and will be missed by everyone. Survivors include his wife, Mara Jeanne Shirley, and son, Charles Douglas Shirley, both of Springfield, SC; a stepson, Michael Anthony Myers, Sr., of Aiken, SC; a stepson, Patrick Ross Myers of Dunedin, FL; a daughter-in-law, Shannon Diane Myers, and grandson, Michael Anthony Myers, Jr., both of Aiken, SC; his father, Windell Leon Shirley, and mother, Julia Leonard Shirley, both of Huntsville, AL; a mother-in-law, Sheila Rae Ward, and father-in-law, Roger E. Ward, both of South Bend, IN; a sister, Windy Lynn Andrews, of Altemonte Springs, FL; and a brother, Jeffrey Leon Shirley, of Corpus Christi, TX. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday in the Shellhouse Funeral Chapel, Hayne Ave. The family will receive friends following the service.
