AIKEN, SC – ELOISE McNEELY HOWARD, 88, widow of William Franklin Howard, died Thursday, October 8, 2009 at Eden Gardens.
A native of East Spencer, NC, Mrs. Howard was a daughter of the late Egbert Samuel and Nelly Mae Maxwell McNeely. Eloise attended Mitchell College in Statesville N. C. She moved to Aiken in 1947 with her family and became a member of The First Presbyterian Church. She also was a member of Presbyterian Women and the LAW Sunday School Class. She was a Charter member of the Pine Needle Garden Club, serving as President in l964-1965. Mrs. Howard won many ribbons at local and state wide flower shows. She served on the Aiken Girl Scout Council, was an avid bridge player and was active in the Women's Palmetto Golf Assoc. and Highland Park Golf Club and was a former member of the Aiken County Hospital Auxillary.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda H. Ingram, her son, William F. (Diane) Howard, Jr., all of Aiken, five grandchildren; Robert Anthony McGeary, Teresa Paige Julkunen, Laura Michele Ward, William F. Howard III and Frederic C. Herlong and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and a brother.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 2:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church. Interment in Bethany Cemetery will be private.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home, 715 East Pine Log Rd., Aiken, SC.
