AIKEN - Suzanne Joyce Broderick entered perpetual rest on October 13, 2009. She was born on April 20, 1936 the daughter of Francis Joyce and Florence Halverson Joyce of Rochester, NY. She attended the University of Rochester majoring in Mathematics and pursued an advance degree in Textiles at the School for American Craftsman, a division of the Rochester Institute of Technology.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Friday at St. Mary Help Of Christians Catholic Church with the Reverend James L. LeBlanc celebrant. A reception will be held at the Green Boundary Club immediately following the service.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Carleton Broderick, III of Aiken, two daughters Alessandra Broderick Kop’Kash (Eric) and Christina Broderick Blackwell (Thomas) of Princeton, NJ; a stepson Peter Broderick (Laura) of San Antonio, TX and a stepdaughter Carla Broderick of Los Angeles, CA; a number of grandchildren; Chloe and Ella Kop’Kash; Madison, Brooke and Jackson Blackwell; William and Katherine Broderick; sisters, Virginia Horton, Pittsford, NY, Patsy Benincasa, Columbus, OH; brother, Thomas Joyce, Sarasota, FL.
Before moving to Aiken in 1995, Mrs. Broderick was involved in a number of organizations, including the League of Women Voters and the Women’s Republican Club of New York. She served as Vice President of Young Audiences, a National organization dedicated to promoting the Arts to school children and continued her community involvement with groups like the Aiken County Council on Aging, Meals on Wheels, the Aiken Labyrinth Project, of which she was Chairperson. Mrs. Broderick also served as a Chaplain’s Assistant at the Aiken Regional Medical Center, a career she started as a Pastoral Care Minister at Mercy Hospital and the Crozier Chester National Burn Center in Philadelphia, PA and continued at St. Lawrence Hospital in Lawrenceville, NJ. She was also a member of the Green Boundary Croquet Club.
