AIKEN, SC – AVALDA DELAND FOSTER, 93, widow of Clinton Richard Foster, died Saturday, October 17, 2009 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
Born in Valentine, NE, Mrs. Foster was a daughter of the late Orin Greene and Carrie Mae Wilson Deland. She grew up in Chadron, NE and graduated from Chadron State Teachers College, and received her Masters Degree from Syracuse University. She was a retired school teacher. She taught secretarial science at Nyack High School in Nyack, NY for 22 years. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Foster had lived in Aiken since 1975, and was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church and a former member of the Aiken County Hospital Auxiliary.
Survivors include her daughter, Avalda Kathleen Hartmann of Monsey, NY, a son, Charles R. Foster of Cincinatti, OH, two sisters, Verda Lucille Norman, Pensacola, FL and Thelma Lavonne Ewers, Wichita, KS, a brother, William Royce Deland, Chiefland, FL, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Nina Vee Norman.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the chapel at St. John’s United Methodist Church with The Rev. Dr. George K Howle officiating.
