Norm is survived by his wife, the former Gloria Brothers, also of Aiken, SC. The Basehores celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary this past April and had a particularly close bond for those many years.
Norm Basehore spent most of his life in central Pennsylvania where he studied engineering at Penn State University. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He worked for Berg Electronics as a sales manager. In 1969 he founded Executone of Harrisburg, a telephone interconnect company. He was admired by his employees for being fair and honest.
Norm was a former member of Harrisburg Rotary. For many years he was active with the Y.M.C.A., serving on the board of Camp Shikellamy, and later on the board at the West Shore Y. There he worked on a project that brought Y services to the residents of Agape House, a home for individuals with mental challenges.
Norm enjoyed golf and cherished the friends he made playing golf. He also enjoyed boating and fishing. Later in life he became an avid soccer fan as he watched his granddaughters compete at the high school and college level. Norm’s interests included travel, photography and science. He could build or repair almost anything in his home workshop. His family will miss his inquisitive nature and his constant concern for their well-being.
In addition to his devoted wife, Gloria, he leaves behind three daughters and sons-in-law, Susan Veach and Bob of Mechanicsburg, PA, Lisa Messegee and Tim of San Jose, CA, and Melinda Hench and Bill of Carlisle, PA.
