Margaret Alberta Smith

AIKEN - Mrs. Margaret Alberta Cromer Smith, 101, died Thursday, November 12, 2009. Private graveside services were held in Bethany Cemetery. Mrs. Smith was born in Fayetteville, GA, a daughter of the late William P. and Margaret Mitchell Cromer. She moved to Aiken in 1927, and was a secretary for the Honorable Strom Thurmond, Sr. as well as a former court stenographer. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Patti (Bill) Hyman, Huntsville, AL; her son, James C. (Terry) Smith, Sr., Lexington, SC; grandchildren, Elizabeth P. Smith Willis, James C. Smith, David Hyman; a niece, Penny Monteiro. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 3157, Aiken, SC 29802.
