AIKEN, SC – HOWARD A. MAYBERRY, 91, died Friday, November 13, 2009 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
A native of Appomattox, VA, Mr. Mayberry was a son of the late Allen and Virginia Goin Mayberry. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, serving in World War II. Mr. Mayberry settled in Aiken 25 years ago after returning from a mission trip to Africa with the Southern Baptist Association, and soon met his wife of the last 24 years, Carolyn Goodwin Brown Mayberry. Mr. Mayberry retired as an assistant purchasing agent for the Aiken County School District. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors, include his wife, Carolyn, four sons; Allen (Annette) Mayberry, Warrenville, SC, David (Sue) Mayberry, Asheboro, NC, Stanley Brown, Aiken and Stephen (Cathie) Brown, Florence, SC, a daughter, Teresa (James “Red”) Roberts, Aiken, eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a brother, Kirk Mayberry, Gainsville, GA. His first wife, Leland West Mayberry, two children, Nancy and West and two sisters, Rachel and Pauline, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 5:00 PM at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home, with The Rev. Steve Gillette officiating. Interment will take place Tuesday afternoon in Spring Hill Cemetery in Lynchburg, VA.
The family will receive friends Monday evening at the funeral home following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Mayberry’s name to a favorite charity.
