Daniel Joseph Townsend

AIKEN, SC -- Mr. Daniel Joseph Townsend, 72, entered into rest November 16, 2009. Beloved husband and soul mate to Linda McCarthy Townsend. Loving father to Mary E. Townsend, Caroline J. Townsend, Andrew P. Townsend, Daniel J. Townsend, Jr., and Bradford J. Townsend. Brother of Samuel E. Townsend and Rose T. Wyndenowski. Grandfather to Stephanie Sigismondi, Joseph Sigismondi, Jacqueline Townsend, Christopher Townsend Natalie Ann Townsend, and Alyssa Townsend. Uncle to several nieces, nephews and a dear friend to many, especially Russell and Pat Downs. He was preceded in death by his father Frank F. Townsend, mother Rose Tuttle Townsend and older brother Frank Townsend Jr. Born in Gloucester City, NJ, Daniel graduated from Haddonfield Memorial High School in 1956 and left NJ to travel the world after joining the U.S. Marine Corps. After honorably serving in the Marines, Daniel settled back in NJ for a time and worked in real estate. Daniel and Linda moved on in later years and enjoyed living in Sarasota, FL, Charlotte NC, Fayetteville, NC, and Aiken, SC. Dan was a member of the American Legion and the Marine Corps League #939 in Aiken, SC. Daniel fought gallantly for his life against Amyothropic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), better known as Lou Gehrig Disease.
