Dorothy "Dottie" K Zorn

AIKEN - Dorothy K. "Dottie" Zorn, died Friday, December 4, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday at First Baptist Church. Reverend Dr. Fred Andrea III will officiate. The family will receive freinds in the church parlor followng the service. Interment will then follow in Bethany Cemetery. Mrs. Zorn was the daughter of Henry B. and Ella Mims Kitchings and the widow of Edward E. Zorn, Sr. She moved to Aiken in 1933 and joined First Baptist Church. She started serving the church in many ways. She helped start the Young Women's Auxiliary and served as President of this organization. She also helped start Bible School in the summer for children and headed this up for years. She also helped the pastor organize Training Union services. She served as President of Women's Missionary Union for several years and was Superintendent of the Junior Department in Sunday School for 10 years. In 1960 she was hired to work as church secretary, where she served for 25 years. She also served as Chairman of a pulpit committee when the church was looking for a pastor and the church called Rev. Austin Roberts as pastor of First Baptist Church. She served as Church Hostess. She also served on the Church Building Committee when the present sanctuary was built. In her last years she served on a committee to visit shut-ins and nursing homes. Mrs. Zorn is survived by two sons, Dr. Ron Zorn, Indianapolis, IN, Steven R. Zorn, Clark Hill, SC; eight grandchildren, Steven E. Zorn and Michael Zorn, whom she raised in Aiken, Tonya Zorn, Edward E. Zorn, III, Kelley Zorn Houston, Karen Zorn, Miriam Zorn Wormouth, Kyle Freeman; eleven great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; daughter in law, Jean Zorn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Edward E. Zorn, Jr. The family would like to thank the Pepper Hill Nursing Center Burgundy Wing for all of their loving care over the past five years.
