Marie Knox Austin

New Ellenton, SC -- Mrs. Marie Knox Austin, 88, widow of James Otto Austin, died Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at her residence. A native of Connelly Springs, NC, Mrs. Austin was a daughter of the late James Dennis and Minnie Berry Knox. She had lived in Aiken County since 1953 and was a homemaker. Mrs. Austin was an active member of Foreman Memorial Baptist Church and was also a member of the New Ellenton Garden Club. Survivors include two daughters Linda (Harry) Kirkland, New Holland, SC, and Jane (Carlton) Martin, Chapin, SC. Two sons, James A. (Conie) Austin, New Ellenton, SC, Timothy (Cindy) Austin, Hephzibah, GA, nine grandchildren, Michele Burnett, New Holland, Todd Kirkland, New Holland, Tina Brumgardt, Columbia, Christopher Austin, New Ellenton, Simon Austin, Amanda Austin and Taylor Austin, all of Hephzibah, Douglas Marden and Angela Marden, both of Oklahoma, eight great-grandchildren, Austin Kirkland, Julia Kirkland, Riley, Reagan and Raney Burnett and Eleanor, Andrew and Madeline Brumgardt, and a sister Hazel Monteith, Connelly Springs, NC. In addition to her husband and parents her daughter Sybil Marden preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 24, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Foreman Memorial Baptist Church with the Reverend Brantley Bryan officiating. Interment will follow at Southlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Todd Kirkland, Jason Brittain, Austin Kirkland, Christopher Austin, Simon Austin, and Thomas Brumhardt. The family will receive friends Wednesday December 23, 2009 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home.
