AIKEN- Mrs. Bertha May Harris Holley, 82, died Saturday, December 26, 2009 at her residence.
A memorial service will be held Monday, December 28, 3:00 PM at Millbrook Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Eddie Leopard and Rev. Dr. Chris Masters officiating. Interment will be held privately at 2:30 at Millbrook Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service.
Mrs. Holley was born in Chester, SC, the daughter of the late Rev. John and Bertha Sanders Harris, and she grew up in McCormick, SC. She was a 1948 graduate of Coker College where she served as class president and was elected May Queen. When she married in 1949, she moved to Aiken and became a member of Millbrook Baptist Church where she gave her life in service for the past 60 years. She was active in WMU, worked in Vacation Bible School, and taught Sunday school for many years. In recent years she was a member of the Chapel Sunday School Class, the Edna Holley Circle, and the Senior visitation group.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Harold F. Holley. She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother.
Survivors include three daughters, Sara H. (Barry) Adams, Aiken, SC, Barbara H. (Clair) Henkes, Jr., Aiken, SC, Nancy H (Jim) Harris, Lexington, SC. Five grandchildren, Jessica H. (Chip) Potts, April Adams, Ryan Henkes, Jon Harris, and Clay (Jessie) Adams, and a sister Elizabeth Elliott, Raleigh, NC.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Millbrook Chapel Preservation Fund.
The family will be at Mrs. Holley's residence.
