AIKEN, SC – ROBERT LOUIS FISHER, 89, beloved husband of Dorothy Beach Fisher, died Thursday, December 31, 2009 at University Hospital in Augusta, GA. A native of Clarence, IA, Mr. Fisher was a son of the late Joseph L. and Dora Christophersen Fisher. In the late 1930’s and early 1940’s, Mr. Fisher was the drummer for the Joseph Fisher Orchestra, which was well known at the time in the upper mid-western US. They recorded under the RCA and Decca record labels. Mr. Fisher served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a B-24 aircraft commander in the South Pacific flying out of Biak and Moratai. He retired from International Harvester in 1978 as a manager in the service and parts division. He and his wife moved to Aiken 5 years ago from Sumter, SC. Survivors include his beloved wife of 64 years, Dorothy, three sisters, Dorothy Tennant, Coupeville, WA, Marian Tillett, Laramie, WY and Mildred Knight, Aiken, a nephew and his wife, James and Karin Knight, Aiken, and a number of other nieces and nephews. No funeral services are planned.
