Aiken- Elvin Darsey "EJ" Jones, 72, died Jan. 30.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, Feb. 2 at St. Johns United Methodist Church with
the Rev. Dr. George K. Howle officiating. Interment will follow at Historic Bethany Cemetery downtown Aiken.
He was born in Patterson, NJ to the late Chester Jones and Wylene Cowart Jones Crosby. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia, Navy veteran, grew up in McRae, GA and lived in Macon, GA working for Bibb Manufacturing Co. and later went to work for RMS, Inc. who owned Shoneys and Green Boundary Restaurants. He later went on to buy out RMS, Inc. and operated these restaurants for many years, before selling them back to RMS, Inc. He opened Eejays Restaurant in 1978. He was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his sons Elvin D. "Butch Jones, Jr., Charleston, SC and Gerald Lee Jones, North Augusta, SC. Other survivors include a grandchild, Kaylee Jones, Aiken, sister, Kathryn Batchelor, Chapin, SC and a brother, Robert Jones.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Lee Hurst Jones and brother James Jones.
