NEW ELLENTON, SC -- MARY JEWELL KEY, 68, died Thursday, February 25, 2010 at her residence. A native and lifelong resident of Aiken County, Miss Key was a daughter of the late Jessie James and Viola K. Key. She retired from the Aiken office of South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Department after 24 years of service. Mary was a member of Talatha Baptist Church and was an active member of the Adult Choir. She also enjoyed working with Vacation Bible School. Her hobbies included working with flowers and ceramics. She was a member of Pilot Club of Aiken, and was recognized as Professional Handicapped Woman of the Year in 1987. She also worked as a volunteer with Special Olympics. Survivors include three sisters; Lucille Porter, Aiken, and Elizabeth P. Coats and Jesse Ford, both of New Ellenton, a brother, Claude J. Key, New Ellenton, and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 2:00 PM at Talatha Baptist Church, with The Rev.'s Kevin Carter, Billy Wright, David Lester and David Little officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Myers Porter, John Porter, Stan Porter, Bobby Key, Jesse Key, Greg Ford, Duane Feldman and Jimmy Wilson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Charles Key, Billy Key, John Key, Charles Barton, Thomas Barton, Ronnie Barton, Jim Carlisle, Joe Powell, George Sessions, Grady Yonce and Mike Dixon. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM Saturday at the church.
