Lorraine Spates Carlisle McNair Homemaker and Community Leader Montmorenci, S. C.-Lorraine Spates Carlisle McNair, 85, died Thursday, March 4, 2010 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday at Montmorenci First Baptist Church with Reverend Tommy Richardson, Reverend Ted Robertson and Reverend William Bradley Bird officiating. Interment will be held at 11:00 AM Monday in the Tabernacle Baptist Church Cemetery, Kitchings Mill, SC. Pallbearers will be Tommy Coward, Harry Busbee, Gene Griggs, Alan Tewkesbury, Michael Young, Tim Simmons, Lionel Smith and James Marvin. Honorary pallbearers will be Wallace Dunbar, Frank Thomas, Clifton Weeks, Ren Toole, Fielding Foreman, Billy Sibley, Al Tewkesbury, Ola Hitt, Florine Shellhouse, Beth Newburn, Barbara Scott, Ann Ritger, Charleen Parrish, Alpha Jenkins. Mrs. McNair was born in Hartsville, SC, a daughter of the late Maston Thomas and Ruth Marie Spates Carlisle. She was a resident of Aiken County since 1943, a homemaker, and member of Montmorenci First Baptist Church. Her community involvement included: Organizer and Past President Country Gardeners, Hitchcock Rehabilitation Center Chairman for Fundraising, District Officer Farm Women’s Council, Officer Lioness Club of Aiken; Past President Missionary Society, Montmorenci Baptist Church; Past President Montmorenci Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary; Past President The Student Club; Past State President United States Daughters of 1812, National Chairman, Mountain Schools; Past President Friends of Hopelands and Rye Patch, Inc., Commissioner Emeritus Aiken Soil Conservation District; Woman of the Year 1991 Greater Aiken Chamber of Commerce. She is survived by her two daughters, Sylvia Lorraine McNair (David) Ratchford, Irmo, SC, Ruthanne DeVore McNair (Henry III) Lucius, Kitchings Mill, SC; a son, Carlisle James McNair, Aiken, SC; two granddaughters, Melissa McNair Ratchford (Rev. William Bradley) Bird, Jean-Preston McNair Lucius; one grandson, Henry Lucius IV; four great granddaughters, Caroline Carlisle Bird, Karis Melissa Bird, Elizabeth Sylvia Bird, and Anna Bradley Bird; and a sister, Anne Maston Carlisle Griggs, Hartsville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James DeVore McNair, their daughter Anna Ruth McNair, and their son, James D. McNair, Jr; and two sisters, Ruth Marie Robertson and Mary Clara Blackmon.
