Robert Walter Christie, Sr.

AIKEN, SC – Robert W. Christie, 98, died Friday, April 17, 2010 in Aiken, SC. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, April 22nd at Grace Lutheran Church, Queens Village, NY. Interment with military honors will follow at Ocean View Cemetery, Staten Island, NY. Mr. Christie was a US Air Force veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. Wounded in action at Owi Island, he was the recipient of the Purple Heart. Mr. Christie was born in Astoria, NY, a son of the late William and Alma Herbig Christie He was employed by the Equitable Life Assurance Society for 48 years. Prior to moving to Aiken in 2006 with his wife, Emilie, he was a resident of Franklin Square, NY for over sixty eight years. He was the beloved husband of the late Emilie Elizabeth Boehling Christie who predeceased him in 2007. Survivors include a daughter, Carol (Jerry) Axner, Aiken; a son, Bob (Phyllis) Christie, Columbia, MO; two grandchildren, Robert Christie, III and Kathleen Christie; two sisters, Mildred Maksymkow, Branford, CT and Alma Haller, Boonton, NJ. Memorials may be made in his name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
