LEOMINSTER – Bonnie M. (Barrilleaux) Riggin, 90, formerly of Aiken, South Carolina, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 in Manor on the Hill, Leominster after an illness.
Her husband of 50 years, Glen W. Riggin died in 1996. She is survived by her sister, Velma B. Sahr of Leominster and her niece Bonnie M. Capman and her husband Donald of Sterling. She was born in Shreveport, LA the daughter of Albert and Mary (Higginbotham) Barrilleaux and moved to Aiken in 1983 when she and her husband retired. She moved to Leominster in 2008 to be close to her family.
Bonnie graduated from Northwestern University in Natchitoches, LA. She was a school teacher and taught for many years, primarily first grade. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Help of Christians Church in Aiken and loved to cook and golf. She was a member of many organizations in Aiken, including PEO, where she served as correspondence secretary and chaplain. Bonnie was also a member of Town & Country, Houndslake Lady Golfers League, Newcomers/Gourmet Group, AAUW and many bridge clubs. She was also a volunteer for ACTS of Aiken, an ecumenical charitable organization (Area Churches Together Serving). Her many friends remember her for her wonderful sense of humor, which she exhibited until the end.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Riggin will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 24th in St. Richards Church, 4 Bridge Street, Sterling. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Aiken, South Carolina, followed by a reception at the church. Burial will take place at 2:00 PM in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ACTS of Aiken, on line at actsofaiken.org or by mail to 340 Park Ave. SW, Aiken, SC 29801.
