Aiken – Mrs. Annie Cleora Herrin Henkes, 86, peacefully entered into rest at UHC - Mattie C. Hall Nursing Home where she had been a resident for five years.
Funeral services will be held May 9, 2010 at 1:30 P.M. at Aiken First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Fred Andrea III officiating. Interment will be in Aiken Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Henkes was a lifelong resident of Aiken, S.C., the daughter of the late James Phillip Herrin, Sr. and Fannie Toole Herrin. She was a graduate of Aiken High School and Augusta Business School. She was retired from the Aiken County Clerk of Courts Office where she had enjoyed serving the Community and it’s residents.
An active member of Aiken First Baptist Church until her admission to UHC - Mattie C. Hall Nursing Home; she was active in The Women’s Missionary Union, the Truth Seekers Sunday School Class, the Circle, and had taught Youth Sunday School and worked in Vacation Bible School. She enjoyed socializing with her Church family and visiting the elderly, sick and shut-ins. She was an avid supporter of Aiken Habitat for Humanity and was an active member of the Trenton Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, serving as Chaplain. Having ancestors who were some of the earliest settlers of this area, she enjoyed tracing her family’s geneology and their connection with the history of Aiken County.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clair Harley Henkes, Sr., a son Harley Gene Henkes, a sister Mary Julia Herrin and a brother Perrin Phillip Herrin .
Survivors include one son, Clair H. (Barbara) Henkes, Jr., Aiken, S.C., and a daughter-in-law, Yvonne A. Henkes, Aiken, S.C. Three grandchildren, Kenneth Hanson Henkes, North Charleston, S.C., Ryan Holley Henkes, Aiken, S.C. and Melanie Anne Henkes, Charleston, S.C., a brother, James Phillip Herrin Jr., Newberry, S.C., and sisters, Evelyn Finnegan, Aiken, S.C., Frances Botkin, Aiken, S.C., and Lorena Wood, Eureka, S.C.
Pallbearers will be Donnie Herrin, Burry Best, Bobby Wood, Alan Herrin, Bryce Botkin and Tracey Wood. Honorary Pallbearers will be Leonard Holsonback, John Beeland and James Holsonback.
The Family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the dedication and compassionate care that was given by the Staff, Nurses, and other caregivers at UHC – Mattie C. Hall Nursing Home. Each had become part of her daily life and extended family.
