AIKEN - Mr. Charles Wesley Goforth, Jr., 88, died Monday, May 17, 2010 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 PM in the Shellhouse Funeral Home Chapel, Hayne Ave., with the Reverend Robert Byrne officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Bethany Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Hayes, John Jones, Randy Glover, Roger Moore, Dr. Richard Chesser, Michael Chesser, Mike Hosang and Tom Moore. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Aiken Coffee Club. Mr. Goforth was born in Greenville, SC, a son of the late Charles and Frances Goforth. He moved to Aiken in 1953, and was a personnel manager for E.I. DuPont at the Savannah River Plant. While living in Aiken, he was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Aiken Coffee Club, Palmetto Golf Club where he served as tournament chairman, was a Cub Scout leader and umpired little league baseball. He also served with the US Army in WWII and in Korea. Mr. Goforth is survived by his beloved wife, Lois Jenkins Goforth; his daughter, Diane (Hans) Samsel-Picard, Tryon, NC; his son, Jim (Ginnie) Samsel, Aiken; three grandchildren, Monica Baltz, Kim Wolfe and Kirk Samsel; four great grandchildren, Steven Walling, Julian Walling, Terra Wolfe and Tarra Wolfe; nieces, Diane Polotto and Candy Croteau.
