Gordon Howard Courtney, Sr.

Aiken-Gordon Howard Courtney, Sr., 90, died June 2, 2010 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, June 4, 2010 at Shellhouse Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Fred Andrea, III officiating. Interment will follow at Historic Bethany Cemetery. He was born in Bamberg, SC to the late Clarence Cosmo and Willie Burkhalter Courtney. He was a lifelong resident of Aiken, Army Veteran of WWII, member of Aiken First Baptist Church and retired office manager of Aiken Produce Co. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Rebecca Weeks Courtney. He was a loving father and grandfather. Survivors include his loving sons, Gordon (Nancy) Courtney, Jr., Aiken, Clarence Hayes "Clancy" (Fain) Courtney, Columbia, SC, Duncan Michael Courtney, Aiken; grandchildren, Gordon Courtney, III, David Culler Courtney, great grandchild, Hannah Claire Courtney; brothers, Dr. Lollice Bradford Courtney, Conway, SC, William O'Neal Courtney, Aiken and a number of nieces and nephews. Memorials may be directed to Tri Development, 1016 Vaucluse Rd., Aiken, SC 29801. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 at Shellhouse Funeral Home, 924 Hayne Ave., Aiken, SC.
