Robert Milton Hammond, Jr.

AIKEN, SC -- MR. ROBERT MILTON HAMMOND, JR., 73, of Mt. Beulah Road, Aiken, South Carolina, peacefully died Monday, June 21, 2010 at University Hospital in Augusta, GA. A native of Chicago, IL, Robert was a son of Eleanor Jadwick Hammond and the late Robert Milton Hammond, Sr.. He was a retired Chief of Police from the Schaumburg Police Department in Schaumburg, IL. Robert was also an Ordained Minister and worked with the Good News Prison Ministries in Aiken, SC. He was also a member a Solid Rock Baptist Church in Aiken. Robert loved his wife, four children, two step-sons, fourteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Survivors include his wife Cornelia Hammond, his mother Eleanor Hammond, Aiken; daughter Kimberly Wieteha, Aiken; three sons, Robert Kerry Hammond, Holly Springs, GA, Rev. Kelly Patrick Hammond, Aiken, MAJ Kurt Allen Hammond, US Army, Leavenworth, KS; two step-sons, Herbert W. Sizemore, Trenton, SC and John E. Sizemore, Barnwell, SC; fourteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Colin Hammond, Naperville, IL; and a sister, Sandra Shallwani, Aiken, SC. Preceding Robert in death were his first wife, Donna Jean Hammond, his father, Robert Hammond, Sr., and a step-son, M. Steven Sizemore. The funeral will be Friday, June 25, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home in Aiken, SC, with The Rev.'s Ronnie Powell and Steven Drawdy officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dave Golden, Jim Crow, Jason Barilow, Dustin Barilow, Brett Hammond, Travis Spears, Ethan Hammond and Sam Stevens. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Willing Workers Sunday School Class of Solid Rock Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 AM Friday at the funeral home.
