AIKEN, SC -- FREEMAN JOSEPH SMITH, 78, died Monday, June 28, 2010 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. Born in Oldwick, NJ, Mr. Smith was a son of the late Joseph Gulick and Ada Mae McMurtry Smith. He was 5th generation from Hunterdon County, NJ and grew up on Mulhockaway Dairy Farm, which is now part of Spruce Run Reservoir. Mr. Smith graduated from Clinton High School in 1950. He was a member of Mid Jersey Trucking Industry Union Local #701, and retired from Tarantino Trucking Co. He had lived in Aiken, SC since 1989. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Freeman Jeffrey and Cheryl Smith of Milford, NJ, two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Brandon, a sister, Mae Herzog of Pottersville, NJ and a brother, Norman Smith of Aiken, SC.
