MARION, VIRGINIA- CHARLES EDWARD WHITE, 74, passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2010 in the Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion, Virginia. Mr. White was born in Smyth County to the late Ralph "Blackie" White and Jessie Margaret White and was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Destiny Faith Taylor. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having joined at the age of 16. He served in the Korean Conflict and was the recieptant of several medals of valor including the purple heart. Charlie had worked with the Virginia Department of Corrections work release program in Caroline County, VA and attended MCV College in Richmond. Mr. White was a retired Deputy from the Smyth County Sheriffs Department where he was the firearms instructor. Charlie was a 32nd Degree Mason, he was a member of the William King Lodge #227 AF & AM in Saltville, the Chilhowie Masonic Lodge # 250 AF & AM and the Glade Spring Lodge # 236 AF & AM. Charlie had served as the worthy patron of the Order of the Eastern Star #151 in Saltville and was past District Deputy. Survivors include his Wife, Millie Brooks White, one Daughter, Missy Reese, Aiken, SC, one Grandson, Reese Boatwright, one Brother, Billy Earl Hudgins, and Nephews, Harvey Ray Hudgins, James Tolliver, Richard Tolliver, and Steven Tolliver. Also included is his Mother In Law, Edith Brooks, his Sister In Law, Juanita Tolliver, and special friends, Gwyn Eddy, Peggy & Tom Eddy, and Joan & Marvin Taylor. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Charlie's memory can be made to the Shriner's Hospital, 950 West Faris Rd. Greenville, SC 29605.
