WASHINGTON, GA - Funeral services for Vernon “Leon” Johnson, 90, of Washington, GA, formerly of Aiken, SC, will be held Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at 2 PM in the Shellhouse Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wayne Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. He died September 3, 2010 at his home in Washington, GA. Mr. Johnson was born in Mascott, TN and was the son of the late Judson D. Johnson and the late Lou Edith Crain Johnson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Ruth Anderson Johnson and his brother, Herrold Johnson. He was a veteran of World War II and worked for ALCOA in Maryville, TN for 10 years prior to working for E. I. Du Pont De Nemours and Company at the Savannah River Plant for 30 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church and served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years. He was also a member of the Rainbow Travelers at Millbrook. Survivors include a daughter, Victoria Johnson Harvey, and her husband, Jack, of Washington, and a son, Rev. Wayne Johnson, and his wife, Linda, of Corning, Arkansas; three grandchildren, Lee Durham and her husband, Jay, of Washington, Mark Stafford and his wife Gina of Van Buren, Arkansas and Chris Stafford of Cabot, Arkansas; five great-grandchildren, Jack and Caroline Durham, Drake and Tori Stafford and Ryan Stafford; two brothers, Forrest and AnnaLou Johnson of Knoxville, TN and Herb Johnson of Lenoir City, TN. Pallbearers will be Jay Durham, John Brumley, Mike Tatum, Ray Feaster, Steve Corley and Bob Buckley. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Longshore, Jim Huskey, Tom Campbell, Cliff Jollie, Bob Daniels, the Whittlers Club and the Bill Whalen Sunday School Class.
