AIKEN - Mr. Alan Andrew Eckmyre, 59, died October 16 , 2010 in Gaithersburg, MD.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday at Millbrook Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Eddie Leopard and Reverered Jacob Edwards officiating. The family will receive friends follwoing the service at the church. Interment will be private.
Mr. Eckmyre was born in Philadelphia, PA, a son of Elenore Miller Powers of Gales Ferry, CT, and Austin Eckmyre of Colorado. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War, and was a Nuclear Engineer for the Project Enhancement Corporation. During his career, he received the ACHMM (Academy of Hazardous Materials Management) Champion of Excellence, Special Achievement, and the Pete Cook Founders awards. He was elected Board Director, Vice President and President of ACHMM, was appointed Fellow of the Institute for Hazardous Materials Management, and was appointed member of the Savannah River Site Citizens Advisory Board. He was a member of Milbrook Baptist Church and a second grade Sunday School teacher. Alan enjoyed camping, fishing, and spending family time at the beach.
In addition to his parents, Alan is survived by his loving wife, Jamie Robert-Eckmyre; a daughter, Jewel M. Eckmyre, Aiken; a son, Bronson E. Eckmyre, Aiken; Sisters,Sharon Wright, Middleburg, FL,Nancy Houston, Houston, TX, Lisa Powers, Gales Ferry, CT; six brothers, Stephen Powers, Upton, MA, Kevin Powers, Gainesville, FL, Glenn Eckmyre, Gales Ferry, CT, Carl Eckmyre, Lusby, MD, Craig Eckmyre, Houston, TX, James Powers, Lebanon, CT.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Keith Eckmyre, a sister, Kathleen Dumais, his step father, Wilbur Powers.
