AIKEN - Mr. James Fraser Sofge, Jr., 85, died Saturday, October 23, 2010.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at St. Johns United Methodist Church with the Reverend Dr. George K. Howle and the Reverend Keith Stewart officiating. The family will receive friends in Ward Hall following the service. Interment will be held at 2:00 PM in Westover Memorial Park, Augusta with military honors.
Pallbearers will be Mr. Sofge's grandsons, David Huntley, Philip Huntley, and Terrel Eaves. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmie Bell, Robert Cook, William Holley, Bill Kirkland, Dwain Mayer, Bill Sofge, Ira Coward, Tommy McElveen, Lamar Keisler, Frank Harling.
Mr. Sofge was born in Augusta, GA, a son of the late James Fraser and Mary Warren Simons Sofge. He was a lifelong resident of Aiken, a 1951 Clemson graduate, and served in the US Army in WWII. He was a former Plant Manager for the Graniteville Company, an active member of St. Johns United Methodist Church, a member of the Horse Creek Valley Historical Society, the Airstream Club, and a Hitchcock Volunteer for many years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Woodward Sofge; three daughters; Nancy Sofge (Nick) Martin, Aiken, Virginia Sofge (Terry) Haynes, Petal, MS, Barbara Sofge (Frank) McIntyre, Fernandina Beach, FL; ten grandchildren, Janet Davis Zielke, Jeffrey C. Davis, Timothy A. Haynes, Bethany B. Haynes, Holly H. Barron, Michael F. Haynes, Erin E. Haynes, Jonathan P. Haynes, Charles J. McIntyre, Kellie A. McIntyre; three step grandchildren, Jennifer M. Anderson, Jessica Martin, Nikki Lynne Martin; five great grandchildren, McKenna Zielke, Megan Zielke, Walker Davis, Bryce Barron, Johnathan Anderson; sister, Eleanor Sofge Boulware, Rock Hill, SC; a number of nieces and nephews; and special caregiver, Annette Smith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lisabel Sofge Huntley.
