AIKEN - George Stewart Pardue, 82, died peacefully at home Thursday, November 4,
2010. He was a native of Aiken, South Carolina and is preceded in death by his parents Adrian Lee Pardue and Annie Lois Senn Pardue, and his wife of 56 years Betty Grubbs Pardue.
George was educated at Graniteville High School where he graduated in 1945. He received a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Clemson University in 1949. He began a long employment with Graniteville Company in the Maintenance Division in 1950 and served from 1950-1952 in the U.S. Infantry as a First Lieutenant during the Korean Conflict. He returned to Graniteville Company to serve as Assistant Engineer at the Steven’s Steam Plant and was promoted to Assistant Maintenance Superintendent, and eventually Vice President of Plant Services until his retirement in 1994. During his professional career, he was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Graniteville Exchange Club and American Legion Post 77. He served as Chairman of the Aiken Planning Commission and Chairman of the Aiken Technical College Scholarship Foundation Board.
He is survived by his two daughters Ann Pardue Flanagan and her husband Paul Joseph Flanagan of Aiken, South Carolina and Kim Pardue Cross and her husband Marshall Cross of Newport News, Virginia, and his granddaughters Anna Rose Flanagan and Kimberly Reed Flanagan.
George was an avid hunter who spent time with his friends at the Old Towne Hunt Club where many stories were shared and embellished. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family at Lake Murray. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Friday at Shellhouse Funeral Home, Hayne Ave. Funeral Services will be held at Memorial Baptist Church at 10:00 AM Saturday, November 6, with private interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
