AIKEN, SC -- MICHAEL SMITH KIDD, 66, beloved husband of Nancy Saunders Kidd, died suddenly, Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
A native of Giles County, VA, Mike was the youngest of twelve children of the late James Frazier and Mamie Smith Kidd. He graduated from Emory & Henry College with a BS in Physics. He came to Aiken in 1966 with DuPont at the Savannah River Site. Mike later worked with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Tennessee Valley Authority before returning to Aiken and retiring from Westinghouse at the Savannah River Site.
Mike was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Aiken where he was a Sunday School Teacher and worked in numerous church offices. He also attended Bland United Methodist Church and was very active in the choir during his summers in Bastian, VA. He was a longtime volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, served on board of directors of Yahweh Wilderness Expeditions, was past president of the Mallard Lake Homeowners Association and was a member of Aiken Golf Club.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Nancy, include a daughter, Ann Michelle Kidd, Knoxville, TN, a son, Thomas Saunders (Ruby) Kidd, Waco, TX, two grandchildren, Jonathan and Joshua Kidd, a sister and five brothers.
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday at 3:00 PM at St. John's United Methodist Church with The Reverend Dr. George K. Howle officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in Ward Hall.
