Margaret Lacher Reilly, age 71, died peacefully from complications of cancer at her home near Luynes, France on November 6. She is survived by husband Robert Reilly, daughters Rachel West, Randleman NC and Chelsea Reilly, Luynes, France; Grandchildren Gloria Jean West, Josh West, Sam West, Randleman, NC.; two brothers, John ( Sally) Lacher, Trenton and Scott (Anna) Lacher, Aiken; and two nephews, David Lacher, Aiken, and Peter (Jezabel) Lacher, Columbia. She was preceded in death by her father, Jack Hammitt Lacher and mother, Thelma Graham Lacher of Aiken and nephew Charles Lacher of Fredericksburg, Va.
Always an avid student, Dr. Reilly had fond memories of St. Hilda’s College in Hurlingham, Argentina, and The Friends School, Wilmington Delaware. Inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, she earned her BA in history at Women’s College (of North Carolina) in Greensboro, her masters and Phd.. at the University of Chicago.
A frequent visitor to Aiken, and a longtime resident of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Margaret taught history at the General Motors Institute in Flint. She and Robert had retired to southern France in the mid 1990's where she pursued her interest in art and cuisine, travel and languages. With her great theatrical sense of fun, inquisitive mind, kindness and wit, she is very much missed.
A service will be held at All Saints Church in Marseilles, France on Wednesday November 10.
