Reverend Ken Carter

AIKEN - Reverend Albert Kenneth Carter, 87, died Thursday, December 9, 2010. A Home Going Celebration will be held at 7:00 PM Monday, December 13 at the River of Life Church with Pastor John Zimmermann and Pastor Keith Solomon officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 6:30 until the time of the service. Rev. Carter was born in Picnic, FL, a son of the late Albert T. and C. Blanche Lewis Carter. He served with the US Navy during WWII in the Pacific. After graduating from the University of Florida, he worked for GE in Japan. He had been a resident of Aiken for 57 years, and was a Mechanical Engineer at SRS before becoming a minister. He retired in 1987 from the ministry. During his time as a minister, he pastored at North Aiken Baptist Church for 23 years, which is now River of Life Church, was a volunteer chaplain at Aiken Regional Medical Centers, was a Chaplain at Croft House, was a supply pastor for various churches in Aiken County, and participated in the Friday Morning Prayer Breakfast. He was a minister and caregiver to many people during his lifetime. He will be remembered and loved by many people he ministered to. Reverend Carter is survived by his two daughters, Sandra (Michael) Harris, Aiken, Linda (David) Solomon, Aiken; two sons, Jerry (Incha) Carter, Columbia, SC, Bobby Carter, Philippines; eight grandchildren; great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Jean Appleby, Picnic, FL; a brother, James Lewis Carter, Fitzgerald, GA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Velna Irene Pollard Carter. Memorials may be directed to the River of Life Church Building Fund, 1411 York St., NE, Aiken, SC 29801.
