Kenneth Mellema

BYERS, CO - Mr. Kenneth Mellema, 88, died December 8, 2010 in Byers, CO. Funeral services followed by military honors will be held at 11 AM Thursday, December 16 at the Sunset Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Reverend Dr. Eddie Leopard will officiate. Mr. Mellema was born in Sanborn, IA, a son of the late Samuel and Minnie Kyper Mellema. He was the former owner of Mellema Trucking, a member of Millbrook Baptist Church, and was a former Captain of the Jefferson County Mounted Sheriff Posse. He also served in the US Army during WWII. He is survived by his daughter, Sondra Ann Mellema-Higgins, Pittsburgh, PA; two sons, Scott Allen Mellema, Byers, CO, Mark Steven Mellema, Byers, CO; five grandchildren, Erin Higgins, Samantha Mellema, Brandie Mellema, Jordan Mellema, Heather Wabitz.. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Veronica Mary Vincent Mellema, several brothers and sisters.
