AIKEN - Mr. Marion Courtney, 98, died Friday, December 17, 2010 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday at St. Johns United Methodist Church with the Reverend Dr. George K. Howle officiating. The family will receive friends in Ward Hall following the service, and interment will follow the reception in Bethany Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Eric Courtney, Scott Courtney, Stuart Courtney, Steven Carroll, Vernon Derrick and Spence Grotheer. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Fellowship Sunday School Class.
Mr. Courtney was a lifelong resident of Aiken, and was the oldest living member of St. Johns United Methodist Church. He had attended and graduated from the Aiken Institute, and then attended Clemson College where he lettered in baseball. He was a civil engineer for the City of Aiken before he retired.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Reba Reynolds Courtney; two sons, Marion Walter (Carmen) Courtney, Sandy, UT, Wayne Reynolds (Gayle) Courtney, Summerville, SC; grandchildren, Eric Lawrence Courtney, Karen Denise Hooper, Scott Evans Courtney, Erin Courtney Carroll, Stuart Lofton Courtney; great grandchildren, Sarah Courtney, Lauren Courtney, Bronwyn Courtney, Stephen Courtney, Sean Courtney, Emerson Courtney, Evan Courtney, Elizabeth Carroll.
In addition to his parents, Otis Lofton and Edna Glenn Green Courtney, he was preceded in death by a sister, Maxine Courtney, and a brother, Carroll Courtney.
