AARON MICHAEL DOWDY, 51, beloved husband of Beth Matthews Dowdy, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, September 3, 2024.
Born in York, PA, Aaron was a son of Brian L. and Nancy Evans Dowdy. His family moved to Florida when he was in his early teens and then relocated to Aiken when he was 16 years old. Aaron graduated from South Aiken High School and shortly after joined Aiken County EMS from 1992-1996. He then joined Aiken Department of Public Safety where he became an important and loved figure. Aaron faithfully served in Patrol, Community Services and Fire services within his department. Aaron was a member of the SRT team, served as a Public Information Officer and Crime Analyst, and instructed plentiful courses including firearm safety and taser. After his retirement Aaron attended the National RV training academy in Athens Texas and became a Certified RV technician.
Aaron Dowdy was loyal and loved his community and the men and women he worked alongside for almost 30 years. Aaron loved his family and adored his children and was more than proud of his children’s accomplishments. Aaron adored his grandchildren and would bake imaginary cookies all day if he could. Aaron was a typical Southern Man and loved watching football, spending his time camping at the beach, and fishing. More than anything else he loved Jesus as was evidenced by the life he lived and the legacy he leaves behind.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of 32 years, Beth, include three children, Melanie Flores (Douglas) Aiken, Brandon Dowdy (Karol)Aiken, Brian Dowdy, North Augusta. Aaron’s grandchildren Stella Beth Flores( Melanie and Douglas) and Rowen Williams( Brandon and Karol ) his parents, Brian and Nancy Dowdy, Murrells Inlet and his brother, Jeff Dowdy (Courtney)and their children, Murrells Inlet.
The family will receive friends Monday morning, September 9th beginning at 10 o’clock at Millbrook Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 11 o’clock with The Rev. Brett Bodiford of Crossroads Church officiating.
Officials, officers and staff of the Aiken Department of Public Safety will serve as honorary pallbearers.
