AIKEN, SC – ALEXANDRA MARIA RITTER, died Thursday, September 14, 2017 on her 91st birthday. A native of Berlin, Germany, Alexandra was a daughter of the late Felix and Wanda Engele. Her family immigrated to New York City in 1937. She graduated from Marshall University and moved to Cincinnati, OH. She taught English as a second language to immigrants, and, also worked as a commercial artist for Fashion Frocks. She met her husband, the late Edmond Ritter, while she was attending evening classes at the University of Cincinnati. They married and honeymooned in Algonquin Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada. They moved to Loveland, OH and started a dairy and beef farm. She continued her studies and earned her Masters of Education from Xavier University in Cincinnati. She earned a Reading Specialist Certification from the State of Ohio and taught GED classes at Stowe Adult Center. She also taught English as a second language in the Cincinnati Public Schools. She retired from McMillan Adult Education Center. She enjoyed spending summers on Manitoulin Island in Ontario. She was always very involved in her children’s education. She had a deep love of nature and animals. Her interests later in life were Tai Chi and swimming. She is survived by four children and four grandchildren. A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Nature Conservancy (www.nature.org).
