Barbara Joan Kupferschmid

AIKEN – Mrs. Barbara Posner Smith Kupferschmid, 78, died Monday, December 4, 2017 at her residence. She leaves behind her beloved husband, Stuart Kupferschmid; daughter Robin Patura of Tolland, CT; granddaughter, Lauren Patura; her good friend, Laura Curtin of Monument, CO and her canine companion, Major. She was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Bert and Florence Posner.  She was a successful entrepreneur who at the age of 6 began selling Christmas cards for her school.  Barbara was awarded certificate of achievement awards all through grade school, making money for her school in Brooklyn. She took those skills to become the top Producer for Investors Diversified Services; a mutual fund company. From there she went to work for Top Flight Personnel Agency which had multiple offices throughout the US and again became their top producer. Barbara opened her own agency and was named “Woman of the Year” by The Hartford Courant. Barb eloped with Stuart in 1958 and enjoyed 59 years of marriage. Upon retirement, Barb and Stu moved to St. Petersburg, FL. They soon found it to be too hot so they relocated to Aiken in 2014 and made their home in Cedar Creek, SC. She and her husband were generous donors to various animal groups throughout the US as animals were her first love. Her main interest was horses. She was a charter member of the Reddington Rock Riding Club of Ellington. Barbara showed her Arabian horse throughout the US. She owned Arabian and Quarter Horses. She called her dogs her kids. She loved life and had a special way of treating strangers with love and dignity and they in time returned their love to her.
