AIKEN, SC – MRS. BARBARA McWHITE, 100, passed away Sunday, March 22, 2020 at Cumberland Village.
A native of New York, N.Y; Barbara grew up and was educated in the New York Public School System in Manhattan. She was married to the late Harry McWhite, a WWII Navy veteran. She worked as a supervisor with New York Telephone Co., retiring after 30 years. She was a former member of The Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral of New York in Jamaica, Queens, N.Y. Barbara moved to Cumberland Village in 2016 and was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Lynette Brumfield (Vince), Aiken, SC; Rosalyn Crews, Danville, VA; Fifteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Leon Harris, Detroit, MI who is 102 years old. Barbara was preceded in death by two sons, Raymond White, Barry White and two sisters, Arlene Van Dunk and Ramona Massey.
Barbara had a charming smile and a witty sense of humor. She loved social activities and puzzles She was a lady on the go who loved to travel and enjoyed telling of her many adventures.
Interment will be in Calverton National Cemetery on Long Island.
