Barbara Raffield Scott

AIKEN, SC - Mrs. Barbara R. Scott, 92, widow of Mackey Scott Jr., passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2021. She was the daughter of the late James and Lois Raffield. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Raffield. Mrs. Scott was born in Sumter, SC, but spent most of her life in Aiken after moving there with her family in her tenth-grade year. An accomplished musician, she taught piano lessons for fifty years to students from around Aiken County. She majored in piano at the University of South Carolina and upon graduation from college, spent the summer studying at Julliard in New York City. Mrs. Scott was very active in civic groups in Aiken including serving at ACTS, Town and Country, the Aiken Symphony Guild, the Country Gardeners, and the Aiken County Museum. She was also instrumental in starting the Aiken Music Teachers Association. She was honored by the Greater Aiken Chamber of Commerce with the Woman of the Year award in 1994. Mrs. Scott was also known for her love of gardening and sharing her beautiful roses with others around Aiken. Mrs. Scott is survived by her three daughters: Lindy Scott, of Clinton, SC, Anne Scott (Rick) Brewer of Greenwood, SC, and Caroline Scott of Baltimore, MD. and three sons: Mackey Scott III (Wanda), Pat (Cathy) Scott, Cam (Lisa) Scott all of Aiken and grandchildren: Michelle Scott Swain, Christopher Scott, Scott Brothers, Brandon Brothers, Amy Shirk, Keri Watt, Lauren Scott McCauley, Joshua Scott, Bishop Scott, Hunter Scott, and Kessler Scott and twelve great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Thornwell Home for Children, Mackey and Barbara Scott Endowment Fund, 302 South Broad Street, Clinton, SC 29325, or ACTS at 340 Park Avenue SW, Aiken, SC 29801. The family will receive friends from 3:00-5:00 PM Sunday, November 7, 2021, at Shellhouse Funeral Home at 924 Hayne Avenue, Aiken, SC. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 8, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Shellhouse Funeral Home. Interment will be held privately in Historic Bethany Cemetery.
