Barbara Kay Shaler

BARBARA KAY SHALER, 80, beloved wife of Richard J. Shaler, passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at her residence.

A native of Saginaw, MI, Barbara was a daughter of the late John and Helen Hickson Sobol.  She grew up and was educated in Michigan.  Barbara worked for the U. S. Postal Service in West Palm Beach, FL, retiring as manager after 25 years in 2003.  She and Richard moved to Aiken in 2007.  She was an active member of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church where she was a member of the Perpetual Adoration team.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Richard; daughter, Susan Shaler, Aiken, sons, Joseph Shaler (Mary), Indianapolis, IN, Patrick Shaler (Jill), Palm Coast, FL; grandchildren, Sam Shaler, Katie Mccurry, Nicholas Shaler, Zakree Shaler, Eric Rancke; great-grandchildren, Addalyn and Lucas Shaler, Samuel and Logan Rancke, Kash Shaler; brothers, John Sobol (Pat), Mike Sobol (Sue) all of Michigan; sisters, Kathleen “Kitty” Packard (Larry), Mary Carlton, all of Michigan.

A Requiem Mass will be Celebrated Saturday morning, January 28^th at 10 o’clock in the old St. Mary Help of Christians Church on Park Avenue followed by inurnment in the church’s columbarium.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Mary’s Pro Life Group, 203 Park Ave., SE, Aiken, SC 29801.
