Aiken - Mr. Barry Nicholson Buchanan, 65, loving husband of Brenda Franklin Buchanan, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2019. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church, Aiken with the Rev. Dr. Brian Coulter and the Rev. Holly Shoaf-O’Kula officiating. Interment will follow in Historic Bethany Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the gravesite. Pallbearers will be James Michael “Jim” Bethmann, David Smarr Jett, Frank H. “Hank” Cormany, Jr., William Harry Busbee, Ted Patrick Schroeder, William Tarrant “Will” Buchanan, Elmer Detwyler “Wylie” Haislip III, John Keith Shafer and Matthew Kyle “Matt” Quinn. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Robert Lee “Trip” Buchanan III and Dr. James Darrell “Jim” Darling. Born in Aiken on June 3, 1954, Barry was a son of the late Robert Lee and Ruth Nicholson Buchanan. He graduated from St. Angela High School and then attended the University of South Carolina. Barry was the owner of three local Midas stores for 27 years. Later in his career, he went to work at AECOM as a Senior Contracts Specialist. Barry also was the administrator of Franklanne Properties. Barry was an elder in the church, serving as deacon and Christian Education Superintendent. He coached church basketball, pee wee football and was an avid golfer. In addition to his wife, Barry is survived by a daughter, Anne Buchanan (Brian Randolph) Scott, Columbia, SC; one son, Franklin Nicholson (Kendall Robinson) Buchanan, Aiken; two grandchildren, Benjamin Randolph Scott and Avery Patricia Ruth Buchanan; a sister, Patricia Buchanan (Dr. James Darrell) Darling, Acworth, GA; a brother, Robert Lee (Clara Robeson) Buchanan, Jr., Aiken; sister-in-law, Lyanne Franklin (Elmer Detwyler “Det”) Haislip, Jr., Aiken; nieces, Bailey Buchanan (John) Shafer, Abby, Madison, and Ashley Darling, Kaminer Haislip (Matt) Quinn; nephews, Dr. Robert Lee “Trip” (Cassie) Buchanan ,William Tarrant “Will” (Amy) Buchanan and Elmer Detwyler “Wylie” Haislip III. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church, 224 Barnwell Ave., NW, Aiken, SC 29801.
