Carla Gayle Lampley

November 11, 1989 — July 17, 2019

AIKEN, SC - On July 17, 2019, Carla Gayle Lampley, 29, of Aiken, South Carolina, departed this temporary life and transitioned into eternal rest to join her Lord and Savior and be reunited with her beloved mother and brother.

Born in Augusta, GA, Carla was the daughter of Charles Gary Lampley, Sr., and the late Rhonda Kaye (Franklin) Lampley and the sister of Charles “Chip” Gary Lampley Jr.  She was a life-long resident of Aiken, attended Aiken County schools, graduated from South Aiken High School and earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina in 2012.

Carla was an ‘old soul’ who enjoyed reading, cooking and exchanging life stories with her extended family. She also avidly followed politics. She loved meeting people from all walks of life, was known for her friendly, warm nature and had a special affinity for babies and the elderly, both in her neighborhood and the Aiken community.  Carla enjoyed the beauty of nature from picking autumn leaves to planting daisies in the spring. She was an animal lover and faithfully took care of the family dogs.

While in high school and college, Carla was a member of Young Life and nurtured what was to become a lifelong desire to serve others. She had an affinity for volunteerism and devoted much of her time to helping people. Carla worked for President Obama’s campaign in 2012 in Charlotte, NC.  She took great pride in playing a significant role in his re-election and working for the causes she believed in. Most recently, she served as a faithful volunteer with a local organization that helps young women in need.

She will be laid to rest near her mother, Rhonda, and her best friend and brother, Chip. She is also predeceased by her maternal grandmother, Gladys Lee Franklin.

Surviving are her father Charles of Aiken; her paternal grandparents, The Rev. Lewis C. and Jeri Lampley, Newnan, GA; maternal grandfather, Charles Franklin, Christiansburg, VA.  In addition to her mother, Carla was preceded in death by her brother Charles Gary “Chip” Lampley, Jr.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home in Aiken, SC. Visitation hours for friends and family will be on Sunday, July 21st from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. A private graveside service will be held in Southlawn Memorial Gardens.
