AIKEN, SC - Carolyn Mae Vernon, 75, of Providence, Rhode Island (RI), went to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 30, 2022. She was a long-time resident of Anchor Nursing Home in Aiken and unable to survive the combination of COVID, pneumonia and a bacterial infection.
Born on December 19, 1946, in Providence, RI, Carolyn was the daughter of the late Herbert and Mable Millard. Carolyn is survived by her three Aiken daughters: Michelle and her husband Danny Godwin; Cheryl and her husband Gerald Smith; and Laurie and her husband Ryan Snipes. Carolyn is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Josh Snipes (Shelby), Alec Vernon (Holli), Madison Vernon, Justin Snipes. 2 great-grandchildren: Whittaker Vernon, Chloe Snipes and, her former husband, Dennis Vernon of Frederick, Maryland. Unfortunately, Carolyn was bedridden for the past several years and was unable to spend time with all those who touched her during her lifetime. She was deeply devoted to her family.
Carolyn graduated in 1965 from Mount Pleasant High School in Providence, RI and worked on many diverse activities before retirement. Her first job after high school was in the office of a major hardware company in RI while attending nigh school to obtain a computer science certificate. Her last employment was as a school bus driver while living in Mystic, Connecticut.
The family would like to verbalize appreciation to the dedicated doctors and nurses at the Aiken Memorial Hospital for their professional services and making Carolyn as comfortable as possible during her difficult journey.
Due to COVID, a private celebration of life service will be limited to her immediate family.
