CHARLES ROBERT “BOBBY” HAYES, 67, beloved husband of Candace Stapleton “Candy” Hayes, passed away Sunday afternoon, March 30, 2025 in his home surrounded by his loving family.
Bobby was born in Augusta and raised in Johnston, SC. He was a son of the late Charles Robert, Sr., and Johnnie McCauley Hayes. He graduated from Strom Thurmond High School where he was a member of the football and baseball teams.
Bobby started working at the Savannah River Site when he was 25 years old. He dedicated many years of service before retiring as a facility administrator with SRNS in 2022. An avid golfer, Bobby cherished every moment spent on the golf course. He also enjoyed camping. Mostly, he was a passionate fan of Georgia Football.
Bobby loved and cherished his family above all else, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Surviving is his wife of 44 years, Candy; three children, Maranda Cromer (Tommy), Kyle Hayes (Jennifer) and Erin Hayes, all of Aiken; six grandchildren, Bryson Clark, Carson Clark, McKenzie Cromer, Caden Cromer, Payton Hayes and Brynna Hayes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Tina Fulop.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, April 2nd from 6 until 8 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be Thursday afternoon, April 3rd at 1 o’clock at Cedar Creek Church, Banks Mill Campus with The Rev. Phillip Lee officiating. Interment will follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Bryson Clark, Carson Clark, Caden Cromer, Mike Mitchell, Dale Mitchell and Lewis Mitchell. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mike Gibson, Sam Speight, Bill Clark and Doug Clark, his longtime buddies from the Johnston Supper Club and Grant Smith and Billy Rodgers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Brenda’s Angels (brendasangels.com) or mailed to 116 Amberly Circle, Aiken, SC 29803.
