Charles "Chuck" Joseph Maxwell

AIKEN, SC - Charles. J Maxwell, “Chuck” died Tuesday a.m., December 12, 2017. He was born on March 19, 1934. Born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa, Chuck returned to Iowa with his wife, Susan McDermott, after a four year stint in the US. Navy where he was honored to have served as a pilot. In Des Moines, they raised their four children, while Chuck began his life long, industry award winning career in life insurance, estate planning and financial planning.Midway through his life, Chuck decided, along with his former wife, Barbara Nelson, that Aiken, SC was where he wanted to be. He has proudly claimed Aiken as his home for the past 20 years.Besides his passion for his business career, Chuck was an active member of St. Mary’s Help of Christians Catholic Church, Aiken Rotary, Palmetto Golf Club, and Aiken Tennis Club where he enjoyed playing cards.Work, community involvement, horses, dogs and golf were some of what kept Chuck busy in Aiken. He thrived on his connections with friends both old and new, as well as his many business associates all across the country. Chuck’s children, grandchildren and great granddaughter enjoyed their visits to Aiken, which often included a trip to the Willcox Inn where Chuck liked to have his photo taken on the front porch with whichever family member was visiting at the time.Chuck will be remembered for his quick wit, his strong work ethic, always showing up in the proper attire , getting places early(not just on time!) and playing up his Irish ancestry. No one could sing “Danny Boy” like Chuck!Chuck is survived by his 4 children, (Kathy, Maryan, Charlie, John), 12 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, his sister (Betty Grask),many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Chuck’s last few years were spent at Cumberland Village Senior Living Community, where he enjoyed the companionship of his devoted caregiver (Jeanette), his dear friend (Ann) and all who filled his last years and last days with peace, love and comfort.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Rotary Club of Aiken, P.
