Charles Bennett Lide, 100, beloved husband of the late Helen Faucett Lide, died 22 April, 2023 at Trinity on Laurens in Aiken.
A native of Marion, SC, Charles was a son of the late William (Harry) and Wilhelmina Bennett Lide.
His early college years at Clemson University were interrupted by WWII and his enlistment in the US Army. After service in the Philippines and Japan with an engineering unit, he returned to Clemson, completing his degree in 1948, and later completing a second degree at the University of South Carolina in Columbia.
Married to Helen for 65 years, he moved to Aiken in 1955 and worked for E.I. DuPont at the Savannah River Plant for 31 years. He was a longtime member of St. John's United Methodist Church.
He had an acute interest in history and was known for his tremendous love of genealogy and spent years creating family lineage charts.
Family camping trips included multiple trips to the American West and New England, plus many closer by trip to the South Carolina mountains and beach.
He is survived by sons Robert (Tallahassee), Ben (Aiken), and granddaughter Jessica Stahl.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday morning, April 25th at 11 o'clock in Southlawn Cemetery.
