Charles A. Pooler, Jr.

May 9, 1945 — January 14, 2025

Aiken, SC

Mr. Charles A. Pooler, Jr. (Buzz), 79, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2025.

Buzz was born May 9, 1945 at Patterson Army Base in Fairfield, OH. He was the son of the late Charles A. and Helen M. Pooler. At the end of the war the family returned to Connecticut and he grew up in Greenwich and Redding. He was an avid tennis player, loved hiking, camping and relished his trips into New York City where he had many adventures. Buzz attended Cardigan Mountain School, Trinity Pawling, and graduated from Joel Barlow High School in Redding. He attended Beloit College and graduated from the University of New Hampshire, Magna Cum Laude.

He was an adventurer and while travelling had many eclectic and life changing experiences. He met his wife, Gretchen and her two children in Florida and fell in love with them all and asked them to marry him. He was a stockbroker, which led to him being a sales rep, which eventually led to his forming his own company in 1987, Pooler and Associates, with Gretchen. His company grew to include seven people whom he mentored, supported and rejoiced in watching them become successful in their own right.

Buzz semi-retired and moved to Aiken in 2006. He restored his house, cottage and grounds, bought a farm and planted blueberries, helped many people who needed help and was a loving, kind, generous and sensitive soul. He will be missed by many!

He is survived by his loving wife, Gretchen Cooper Pooler; a daughter, Jane Barnes, Aiken; a son, Scott Barnes, Aiken; one grandchild, Cooper Barnes, St Augustine, FL; a sister, Priscilla Geoghegan, Canaan, NH; and a brother, William Pooler, Grafton, MA; his sister and brother-inlaw, Gibby and Jim Lawson, who were more like his own sister and brother; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be private.
