CHERYL MILLER GUYNN, 79, beloved widow of James Chandler Guynn, passed away Saturday morning, March 9, 2024 in Cumberland Hills with her daughter by her side.
A native of Chamblee, GA, Cheryl was a daughter of the late George Newton Miller, who died when Cheryl was a child, and the late Pearl Chesnut Miller Berry. Her mother later married Franklin Lafayette Berry, who adopted her when she was 16. Cheryl was a proud graduate of the University of Georga, earning her BS from the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences. In her early adult years, Cheryl was a home economist with the University of Georgia Extension Service. She and James were married in 1966, and they moved to Aiken in 1969 where she raised their family. Cheryl was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church. She loved sewing, bridge and traveling (provided a Neiman Marcus store was in close proximity). She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution until her health would no longer allow, and was also a former member of the Aiken Junior Women’s Club. She was an avid fan of UGA Football and Atlanta Braves Baseball.
Surviving are her two daughters, Mary O. Guynn (Justin Pimsner), Aiken, SC and Dr. Melissa J. Guynn, Las Cruces, NM. In addition to her parents, Cheryl was preceded in death by her husband James, in 2022, one week shy of their 56th anniversary.
A Celebration of Cheryl’s Life will be Friday, May 17th at 5 o’clock at The Green Boundary Club.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to SPCA Albrecht Center (letlovelive.org) or the UGA Foundation and mailed to UGA FACS Office of Development and Alumni Relations, 224 Dawson Hall, Athens, GA 30602. (Please indicate FACS Fund).
